Born in New York City in 1931. Majored in Art at Bennington College with interest in ceramics. Accompanying her husband and two small children to Germany in 1956, she continued her studies in ceramics in a Munich studio. Returning to Virginia in 1961, she set up her own studio in Hollin Hills, a community of contemporary houses in Alexandria. When the Corcoran School of Art started its ceramics program, Solveig worked with Teru Hara in the mid-1960's. Since then she has studied at weekend workshops, courses at Penland and Haystack, and on sojourns to Latin America, Europe, Turkey and Japan.

In the 1960's when the American Crafts Council started to hold major craft fairs, Solveig was in the third one at Mt. Snow in Vermont. She launched her wholesale business there. She has continued to exhibit with them through the years and built a business that has sold work to more than 100 shops and galleries across the country.

Ever since 1974, when Solveig was one of the first potters to join, she has shared a group pottery studio in the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Old Town Alexandria.

The cat image has recurred in her art work since childhood and for the last twenty years has been the major theme of her pottery. She lives with her husband and two cats upstairs over the glass-walled studio where she works every day. Her cats are tigers, one orange and one ginger: Ellsworth and Sedgwick, named after towns near their vacation house on the coast of Maine.

Solveig has served on several boards including The Fairfax County Council of the Arts, The Athenaeum in Alexandria, The Torpedo Factory Artists Association and the Smithsonian's James Renwick Alliance.
